Terms and Conditions

Effective from 1 December 2026 · Version 1.0

These terms apply to all private lessons and Internal Assessment (IA) consultations. Please read them before the first lesson. The short version: cancel at least 48 hours ahead, lessons start and end on time, and you pay after each lesson.

48 hoursFree cancellation up to 48 hours before the lesson. Later cancellations and no-shows are charged in full.
On timeIf the student is late, the lesson still ends at the booked time and the full fee is due.
After each lessonPayment in cash after the lesson; I email the invoice. Monthly payment is available after the first 20 lessons.

1. The parties

1.1 The service provider is Dr Tamás Barczikay, sole trader (egyéni vállalkozó), Budapest, Hungary; tax number: [to be added]; registered address: [to be added]; email: [email protected] (the “Tutor”).

1.2 The client is the person who books the service (the “Client”). If the student is under 18, the Client is the student’s parent or legal guardian, who accepts these terms on the student’s behalf and is responsible for payment.

1.3 The contract is formed when the Tutor confirms the first booking by email. By booking a lesson, the Client accepts these terms.

2. Services

2.1 Private lessons: one-to-one IB Economics (SL and HL) lessons of 50 minutes, online or in person in Budapest. The Tutor prepares individually for each student before every lesson.

2.2 IA consultation: for one IA commentary, (a) written online feedback on the student’s draft, criterion by criterion, and (b) one private revision session to go through the feedback.

2.3 Lesson times are agreed by email or message. A lesson is booked once the Tutor has confirmed it.

3. Prices

Private lesson (50 minutes)25 000 HUF
IA consultation (one commentary: written feedback + one revision session)50 000 HUF

3.1 Prices are final amounts in Hungarian forints. The Tutor is taxed under the KATA scheme (small taxpayers’ itemised lump-sum tax), so no VAT is charged separately.

3.2 Invoices are issued to the parent or the adult student as a private individual.

3.3 The Tutor may change prices with at least 30 days’ written notice. Lessons already booked keep the old price.

4. Payment

4.1 Standard payment: the fee is paid in cash at the end of each lesson. For online lessons, or if agreed, payment can be made by bank transfer on the day of the lesson. The Tutor sends the invoice by email.

4.2 Monthly payment: once the student has completed 20 lessons, the Client may ask to pay monthly. The Tutor then issues one invoice at the end of each month for all lessons held and charged in that month, payable by bank transfer within 8 days.

4.3 IA consultation: the fee is due when the written feedback is sent, and is payable by bank transfer within 8 days of the invoice.

4.4 If a payment is more than 15 days late, the Tutor may suspend further lessons until it is settled.

5. Cancellation, late arrival and missed lessons

5.1 48-hour rule. The Client may cancel or move a lesson free of charge up to 48 hours before its start, by email or message.

5.2 A lesson cancelled less than 48 hours before its start, or missed without notice, is charged at the full price. The time was reserved and prepared for this student and usually cannot be offered to anyone else.

5.3 Late arrival. If the student arrives late or joins an online lesson late, the lesson still ends at the booked time and the full fee is due. If the student does not appear within 20 minutes, the lesson counts as missed.

5.4 Illness and emergencies. In case of sudden illness or an emergency, the Tutor may waive the fee at his discretion, once per term.

5.5 Cancellation by the Tutor. If the Tutor cancels, the lesson is rescheduled or not charged. If the Tutor is more than 10 minutes late, the missing time is added to the lesson or deducted from the fee.

5.6 Online lessons. The student needs a stable internet connection, a working camera and microphone. If a lesson cannot continue because of a technical fault on the Tutor’s side, the lost time is made up. Faults on the student’s side are treated as late arrival.

6. IA consultation and academic integrity

6.1 The Internal Assessment must be the student’s own work. The Tutor explains what the IB criteria require and points out where the draft falls short. He does not write, rewrite or edit the student’s work.

6.2 The student must follow their school’s rules and the IB’s academic integrity policy, including telling their teacher about outside help if the school requires it.

6.3 Written feedback is sent within 7 days of receiving the draft, unless agreed otherwise. Drafts sent less than 7 days before a school deadline are handled as time allows.

6.4 Estimated marks are the Tutor’s professional opinion. The final mark is awarded by the school and moderated by the IB.

7. Results

7.1 The Tutor does his best to help the student progress, but results also depend on the student’s own work. No specific grade or mark is guaranteed.

8. Materials and recordings

8.1 Practice papers, handouts, slides and simulations prepared by the Tutor are for the student’s personal use only and may not be shared, sold or published.

8.2 Lessons are not recorded unless both sides agree in advance.

9. Personal data

9.1 The Tutor handles the Client’s and the student’s personal data (names, email address, phone number, billing address, lesson records, invoices and the student’s work) only to provide the service and to meet accounting and tax obligations, in line with the GDPR. No identity card, personal identification or tax identification number is requested.

9.2 Invoices are kept for the period required by Hungarian accounting law. Students’ work is deleted within one year after the last lesson, unless the student asks otherwise.

9.3 Students’ work is never shown to anyone else. It is used as an anonymised example only with the student’s written consent (and the parent’s, if the student is under 18).

9.4 The Client may ask at any time to see, correct or delete their data by writing to the email address above.

10. Right of withdrawal

10.1 Under Hungarian consumer law (Government Decree 45/2014), a Client who books remotely may withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason. By asking for a lesson to take place within those 14 days, the Client agrees that the service starts early. A service already delivered in full cannot be withdrawn from, and for a partly delivered service the proportionate fee is due.

11. Ending the arrangement

11.1 Either side may end the arrangement at any time by email. Lessons already held and late cancellations remain payable.

12. Complaints and governing law

12.1 Please send any complaint to the email address above. The Tutor replies within 15 days.

12.2 These terms are governed by Hungarian law. If a dispute cannot be settled directly, the Client may turn to the Budapest Conciliation Board (Budapesti Békéltető Testület) or the competent court.

12.3 The Tutor may update these terms with 30 days’ notice by email. The current version is always available on the website.

12.4 These terms are available in English and Hungarian. If the two versions differ, the Hungarian version prevails.
